This is the best war movie I have seen in my life, and probably one of the best movies overall as well. My hands literally ached afterwards from where I was clenching my fists so tight due to the sheer anxiety caused by this film. I also cried. At least three times. The fact that they cast relative unknowns in the role was perfect as you were so immersed in their characters and they were so believable which wouldnt have been the same if they were famous a-listers. The cinematography. Every frame was a literal masterpiece and Roger Deakins is the talent of the century when it comes to cinematography. Another Oscar is not enough for this man. Finally the atmosphere and scale of this film is almost unbelievable. Never have I been so immersed in a movie, my concentration didnt break for a single moment and that is something that is very hard to achieve for a director. Sam Mendes has cemented himself as one of the best working today and he deserves all the credit he can get. PS: I also appreciated the last name of the main character, its a good day to be a Scofield.

After learning some of the history of WWI and knowing that my ancestors fought in that war made me want to see a well done movie about the great war. Especially because we're just over 100 years away from it now. This movie really captured a lot of what I was looking for, like the absolute obscenity of the trenches and the bodies filling the shell holes and the absurd amounts of shelling that actually went on. It also showed that in that time the Germans really did have a better army that was more equipped and highly trained. The cinematography was amazing as well and the beauty of the destruction contrasted with the beauty of the natural landscape. Just amazing.

I jumped at least 6 times because of the sudden shots! Really good movie. Best WW1 movie ever. The cinematography was nice, and the props looked convincing, at least to someone who isn't a history buff, but the writing wasn't too impressive. Too many scenes that made you go hmmm.
